At any given time in the kennel there are 30 beautiful greyhounds and other dogs ready and waiting to be adopted. We encourage you to visit the kennel any day of the week between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Adoption from Greyhounds Friends is a carefully structured process. We work hard to ensure that we place dogs in homes that are very well-matched and compatible. The safety and well being of the dogs is of the utmost importance to the organization and our staff, for the benefit of all concerned. Please carefully read the steps in the adoption process. There is an adoption fee of $300 with each adopted dog (this goes to offset our average cost of $1800 to re-home each dog, including transportation, spay/neuter surgery, medications, vaccinations, and other veterinary costs, and care while at our kennel).
3 Steps to Adopt:
1. The first step in the adoption process is to visit the Greyhound Friends adoption kennel (located in Hopkinton, MA - 167 Saddle Hill Road, 01748). The kennel is open every day - 7 days a week - from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone interested in adopting is welcome to stop by when it's convenient or, if preferred, an appointment can be made in advance by calling 508-435-5969. All people living in the home where the adopted dog will live should plan to attend this visit. When you visit the kennel we ask that you also please complete the pre-adoption form and bring it with you.
We'll review your pre-adoption form with you when you arrive. The form asks questions about the adopter's lifestyle - house or apartment, fenced yard or not, work hours, children, other pets, etc. This information helps the staff show greyhounds to the adopters that may match their lifestyles.
2. Once the pre-adoption form review is completed (PDF above), potential adopters will be introduced to some dogs. Walking them on a leash or taking them into the fenced field for a run are ways to get to know a particular dog.
3. If a match is made and the adoption proceeds, an adoption form will then be completed and references checked. After all necessary paperwork is completed, you're able to take the dog home with you. Because of the volume of dogs waiting to come to Greyhound Friends, we usually cannot "hold" adopted dogs at the kennel, with rare exceptions. We will send your dog home with food and a new collar and leash. Any other accessories can be purchased at our kennel shop.
